How to get Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade to my HTC Hero?

HTC Hero has almost stopped receiving official updates from the company, but developers are trying their best to bring latest Android OS for the phone. Can I port Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS to HTC Hero CDMA?
